Frequently Asked Questions
The Basics
What is oPPal?
oPPal is a peer support platform that connects new mothers with experienced mothers for real, one-on-one support during the postpartum period. We call new moms "Little oPPals" and experienced moms "Big oPPals." It's not therapy, not a hotline, and not a forum — it's a genuine human connection with someone who has been through it and come out the other side.
Who is oPPal for?
oPPal is currently for first time moms navigating the postpartum period (But sign up is available at the beginning of pregnancy through the first year postpartum). It's also for experienced moms who want to support someone going through one of life's most challenging transitions. If you've been there, you have something valuable to offer.
When is oPPal launching?
oPPal launches in April 2026. You can join the founding waitlist now at myoppal.com to be among the first matched when we go live. Founding waitlist members get priority matching at launch.
Who Are the Bigs?
Who are Big oPPals?
Big oPPals are experienced mothers who want to connect and support a new mom through the postpartum period. They're not professionals or therapists — they're real women who have lived through sleepless nights, identity shifts, feeding challenges, and everything in between. They show up because they remember what it felt like and want to make it easier for someone else.
How are Big oPPals selected?
Every Big oPPal goes through an application and verification process before being approved to be matched. We review their experience, their motivations, and their availability to ensure they're the right fit to support a Little oPPal.
Are Big oPPals trained?
Yes. Big oPPals receive onboarding guidance from oPPal before being matched, called The Big oPPal Starmap. This covers how to show up as a supportive presence, what to do if a Little needs more than peer support, and how to set healthy boundaries. We also provide ongoing resources to support our Bigs throughout the experience.
Who Developed the training?
The Big oPPal Starmap onboarding and guidance was developed in collaboration with maternal mental health experts to ensure our Bigs have the tools, confidence, and boundaries needed to provide safe and meaningful peer support.
How Matching Works
How does oPPal match Bigs and Littles?
Matching at oPPal is thoughtful and personalized. Everyone will complete an intake form that helps us understand your experience, your needs, your communication style, and what matters most to you. We use this information to find a Big oPPal who is genuinely compatible with you — not just whoever is available.
What factors go into a match?
We consider a range of factors including your fertility experience, any specific challenges you've faced or are facing, your communication preferences, your personality, and your values.
How long does matching take?
Our goal is to match every Little oPPal within one week of signing up. Founding waitlist members receive priority matching, meaning you'll be among the very first pairs we create when oPPal goes live in April.
What if my match isn't a good fit?
We know that not every match will be perfect — and that's okay. If your match isn't working for any reason, you can reach out to the oPPal team and we'll work with you to find a better fit. You will never be left without support. Our goal is for every Little oPPal to feel genuinely connected to their Big, and we'll keep working until that happens.
Privacy & Safety
Is my information private?
Yes. Your personal information is never shared publicly and is only used for the purpose of matching and supporting you within the oPPal platform. We take privacy seriously — especially given the sensitive nature of the postpartum experience. Your conversations with your Big oPPal are your own.
What if I need more support than oPPal can provide?
oPPal is a peer support platform, not a clinical service. If you're experiencing symptoms of postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, or any other mental health concern that requires professional care, we will always encourage and help you connect with the right resources. Your Big oPPal is trained to recognize when to gently encourage you to seek additional support, and the oPPal team is here to help you find it.
Your Account
How much does oPPal cost?
Pricing details will be announced at our April 2026 launch. Join the founding waitlist now at myoppal.com to be the first to know — and to receive priority matching when we go live.
How do I cancel or leave?
You are never locked in. If you need to step back from oPPal for any reason — as a Big or a Little — you can do so at any time by contacting the oPPal team. We understand that life happens, and we'll always handle your situation with care and respect.
Can I be both a Big and a Little?
That's a thoughtful question! Right now, oPPal is designed for one role per member — either giving support or receiving it. As we grow, we'll continue to evaluate how to best serve our community. If this is something you're interested in, let us know when you sign up and we'll keep it in mind.
